Strong Start to the Season

Golf Captain, Tony with Catherine.

The 2026 Croquet season has commenced with tremendous enthusiasm across the club.

Association Croquet, on Wednesday and Saturday morning, is experiencing a resurgence in numbers, with new members joining in and regular members trying their hand for the first time or revisiting the code. Those interested in learning to play can speak with Code Captain Penny for guidance.

Tuesday and Friday morning Golf Croquet sessions, led by Captains Tony and Chris, are focusing on fostering social play and upholding good etiquette, setting a welcoming and friendly tone for the year ahead.

Club members may have noticed that the Gateball players have started marking their courts with blue paint instead of the traditional white. Gateball is played on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Anyone interested in joining Gateball can see Code Captain Phil.

Meanwhile, Ricochet players continue to enjoy their Monday morning sessions, contributing to the friendly atmosphere on the lawns. For those keen to try Ricochet, Code Captain Louise is the point of contact for more information.

The Saturday morning Golf sessions, guided by Golf Captain Brett, remains popular—especially among new members, working members, and the regulars.

The Social Committee launched the first function of 2026 with a delicious "Welcome Back Breakfast". This event, put together by Jules, Chris, and Meg, started the year off well. Sincere thanks to the trio for their efforts in bringing members together.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

We welcome Helen Lefrere and Valentine Lefrere from Queenstown, NZ. Both were active members of the Wakatipu Croquet Club, and their enthusiasm for Golf and Association is clear to see. We are delighted to have such keen and knowledgeable players join our club.

We also welcome Hedi Trask. Hedi joins us from the Toombul Croquet Club. With her experience and participation in croquet, especially Association, Hedi brings a wealth of expertise to our club.

We encourage members to assist Helen, Valentine, and Hedi as they settle in and familiarise themselves with our club.

ON THE LAWNS!

Question:   How is BEHAVIOUR/ETIQUETTE regarded in the context of golf croquet?

Answer:   The WCF Rules of Golf Croquet (Sixth Edition – February 2022) serve as the definitive authority on all aspects of golf croquet.

Observing these rules is central to the croquet experience.

Playing promptly, adhering to the rules, and avoiding any form of unacceptable behaviour are essential to maintaining the integrity, safety, and enjoyment of the game.

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE - FUND RAISING

Louise, who also captains our Ricochet team, keeps our Containers for Change fundraising running smoothly.

Once both container bins, found right next to the regular rubbish bins, are full, she sorts out the collection for us.

Just lift the lid and you’ll see the two bins—couldn’t be easier.

Here’s a tip: by taking your bottles and cans straight to the drop-off depot, you can make sure the club gets the whole ten cents for every eligible item. Just nominate our club by name or number at the depot and the funds go straight in.

At the latest Eildon Management Committee (EMC)meeting, all bincoin proceeds are now going towards our 2026 club charity, the Redcliffe Breakfast Cub.

You can keep track of our progress on the monthly graph displayed on the club house slideshow.

Typically, once the bins are full, we collect about $34. It usually takes a month to fill both bins.

If we manage to fill one bin each week, we could potentially double what we raise for our charity.

Let’s all do our bit and drop in those eligible containers whenever we can.

Every container helps!

VOLUNTEERING - SHARING YOUR EXPERTISE

On Saturday morning during Golf Club Play, our President, Jill, took the opportunity to personally thank Gavin for his contribution to the club.

She presented him with a voucher as a token of appreciation for the electrical work he completed in the club house.

Every effort, whether large or small, helps to strengthen our club and create a supportive environment for all.

Thank you, Gavin!

FACEBOOK - JANUARY - A LIVELY 2026 START
The opening week of club play saw keen enthusiasts from all codes returning to our fantastic lawns.

With the summer heat in full swing, players were well-prepared—practising the Aussie “slip, slop, slap, sip” routine to stay sun-safe and hydrated.

Both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet are played on Saturday morning, and this week all four lawns were packed with action.

It was great to see new members and regulars catching up after the Christmas break and everyone enthusiastically getting back into the croquet play mindset!

FACEBOOK - JANUARY - CLUB HIRE

For the third-year running, the South East Qld A’Van Club rolled in for a croquet session, hiring our club for their Friday afternoon activity by the Bay.

These legends are always up for a bit of fun and adventure—whether it’s croquet or swinging the golf clubs across the Nullarbor!

We reckon we’ve spotted quite a few future croquet champs among them!

A big thank you to Desley, Judy, Peter, and Lorraine for making everyone feel right at home!

 A'Van Club messaged......

Thank you so much. We've been co-ordinating with Desley for 3 years. Have enjoyed your club and support from your members. Thank you.
