MARCH, 2026
WELCOME!

We warmly greet our new members.

It’s wonderful to see Jenee Molyneux back in our club. Bribie is Jenee’s main club, and she regularly plays at Eildon on Monday arvos and Saturday mornings. Jenee brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to our group. It’s fantastic to see her playing great croquet and in good health.

Jeannine Blackie, enjoys her croquet and is a skilled player from Banyo Social Club. We’re looking forward to having a hit with Jeannie on Club Days.

Wanda Sanders has finished the Come and Try and Coaching Program alongside mates who joined last month. We hope you enjoy playing croquet with your friends as well as the new friends you will make in our club.

Let’s make sure to welcome our newest members and help them get settled in and learn the ropes around the club.

CODE CAPTAIN REPORTS

Each month, the Code Captains prepare and submit a report to the Eildon Management Committee (EMC). Instead of including these reports directly in the meeting minutes, the EMC  decided to publish them in the monthly newsletter. This approach ensures that the reports are accessible to all members and provides a dedicated platform for sharing updates from the Code Captains.

HEADING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY - WITH MALLET!

The month of March competition croquet has seen our members having a great time playing in tournaments across the region.

The Darling Downs AC & GC events were well supported by Eildon members. Keith Williamson had his first competition Triple Peel and was presented with a trophy for the demonstration of that special skill.

Sunshine Coast Regional Croquet Clubs invited entries to their golf championships to members outside their region and rapidly had a full house. The format of the tournaments was a little different to usual with 16 players in blocks of 4 and the top two then going to a Knock out stage.

Whilst we didnt have any members from Div 3 enter (maybe 2027), the rest of the events were well supported by Eildon members.

Tuesday -Division 2 Singles - what a fantastic achievement by our three members, Jill (4th) , Penny (3rd) and Steve (2nd).

Thursday - Open Doubles - quite a party from Eildon, Jan & Shelly, Jill & Penny, Desley & Mike, John & Lorraine.

Desley and Mike progressed through the Knock out round to the finals, were they met Gabby anbd  .  playing .... and runner up

Friday - Division 1 Singles - with John, Mike and Desley on the lawns, it was Desley who came up trumps right to the end, taking our first place/

Congratulations to all players on exceptional play and especially to the place getters - superb!

Thank you to club members for your support of our players on Facebook, your likes and comments are appreciated.

The Gateball players, travelled over the bridge to Sandgate to participate in the Moreton Bay Teams and Doubles. Philip and Alan won their Doubles event.

Just to keep things happening, Jill & Robert R, Judy & Peter, Maggie & Kathy, Robert K and Lorraine headed across sthe river to the  Mt Warren Cup at Twin Rivers Croquet Club at Eaglby.   Twin Rivers is a relatively new club and is was great to see there Club house is beginning  construction and their lawns are in top condition due to the committment of their members. Eildon members have supported this event since its inception a few years ago.  Put that one on the calendar for 2027.

Robert K was back at Twin Rivers the following week for the singles event.

A group of Qld State Squad players headed off to Sydney to compete in the NSW Women's Open, from Eildon was Jenee.

The Qld Women's Open held at Wynnum was attended by Desley, Jill, Jenee and Lorraine. Bob Martin was a referee for a day.

Not only do players have a great time while they are away competing but our social sessions at Eildon are also a time of enjoyment.

ETIQUETTE

We know what etiquette looks and sounds like during a game.

But what about starting and finishing?

Like all sports, our sport—croquet—has rules and rituals, whether it be social, club, or event play!

At the end of the day, it's about respect for fellow players and our game of croquet.

🌿 Starting a Game: Quick Etiquette Tips

  • Move to your allocated lawn promptly—so games can get under way in a timely manner for all. Coffee to go? Not really a good idea.
  • Toss the penny and settle colours—keep it simple and the chit-chat brief.
  • Wish opponents an enjoyable/good game—a friendly start sets the tone for good play.
  • Stand clear of the striker—give space and avoid movement that could distract.
  • Play with despatch - be aware of where your ball is and when it is your turn.

🌿Finishing a Game: Quick Etiquette Tips

  • A — Acknowledge all play with a friendly comment, e.g. “Good game!”
  • B — Balls away: Once the game has finished, pick up your ball (hitting, throwing or kicking balls isn’t desirable etiquette) and return the balls to the corner or trolley if it’s the last game. Leaving your mallet on the lawn while you gather the balls and/or pegs is not condoned.
  • C — Clear the lawn with dispatch: Easy—step off by the nearest boundary. Dawdling across the lawns, chatting as you go, or standing on the lawn discussing tactics or coaching isn’t considered appropriate etiquette. Keep voices low until you’re well clear of the lawns, then chat away!
  • D — Don’t distract others: Wait before crossing behind a striker in the other game on your lawn if double-banked, and please stay outside boundaries when a game is in progress.

CRoquet Qld Squads

Over the years it has  been the practice of Croquet Qld (CQ) to offer selected Golf Croquet (GC)  players a place in various coaching squads.

In 2025 - Desley and Bob were in the State Squad and were selected from their to represent Qld at the National Interstate event.

Judy and Peter were selected for the Training Squad.

In 2026 there has been a revamp of the coaching squads with a new titles and selection process. The SelectionPolicy for both squads is available on the CAQ website.

From Eildon we have:

State Squad - Bob, Casey, Desley and Mike

Reserve Squad - Andre, Gavin and John

Congratulation to all.

Redcliffe Breakfast Club.

Remember the torrential rain on the day of our Bunnings BBQ?? We were left with many sausages adn loaves of bread so Jill rang the Redcliffe Breakfast Club and asked whether they wanted a donation to serve up to their clients. Yes Please was the response, so instead of a shopping trolley of goodies, they received a few kilos of sausages and a substantial amount of bread.

A big thank you to all the brave souls who ventured out in the rain to cook sausages and serve the public at Rothwell.
